Unlocking My Professional Potential Through BG5: A Career Reinvention Story by Amanda Trenfield

For years, I found myself questioning why certain work environments felt draining, why some roles came effortlessly while others felt like a constant uphill battle, and why recognition from the right people was always the difference between thriving or burning out.


Everything shifted when I discovered BG5—the business application of Human Design. Through my analysis, I came to understand my true design: I am an Advisor with Splenic Inner Authority, a 2/5 Profile, and a Life Theme of Explanation, all of which play a pivotal role in how I’m designed to show up in business, leadership, and life.


💼 The Advisor Career Type: Seeing What Others Can’t

As an Advisor, I am not here to do all the work—I’m here to guide energy, to offer strategic direction, and to help others see the most efficient path forward. When I operated like a Builder (BG5’s term for those designed to work consistently), I burned out. Twenty years in financial services taught me discipline, but not alignment. I was overworking, over-delivering, and overly stressed.


Advisors require recognition and invitation, especially in professional environments. I now understand that when I wait to be recognised for my insight, and only then share my perspective, it lands with power. It creates real transformation. But when I insert myself prematurely, I’m often met with resistance or dismissal.

🧭 Splenic Inner Authority: Real-Time, Intuitive Decisions

My Inner Authority is Splenic—meaning I make decisions in the present moment, based on instinct and an immediate sense of what feels right or wrong. There’s no need to overthink or gather consensus. When I trust my instincts, the decision is correct. When I ignore them—when I let logic or pressure from others override my inner knowing—I pay the price.


Professionally, this has been revolutionary. I now trust my first instinct in business—about clients, partnerships, speaking engagements, and even timing. It has led me to the right opportunities and protected me from the wrong ones.

🌀 2/5 Profile: The Balancing Act

My Profile is a 2/5—sometimes referred to as “The Hermit and the Problem Solver.” The first aspect of my nature prefers solitude, retreat, and space. I do my best thinking alone. I recharge in solitude, and when I honour this, I gain profound clarity and insight.


But the fifth aspect of my Role is outward-facing. It projects strength and solutions. People see me as someone with answers—and they often seek me out to “fix” things.


This is where my natural problem-solving energy comes into play. However, it can also be challenging—because when I don’t live up to the expectations others project onto me, I risk becoming the scapegoat.





Navigating this balance has become a key theme in my professional evolution. I’ve had to learn to set boundaries, prioritise recovery time, and be discerning about the invitations I accept.

🔑 My Life Theme: Explanation

Explanation—the ability to take complex, innovative ideas and explain them in ways others can understand and apply. I’ve used this in many ways over the years:

  • To simplify highly complicated commodity trading strategies in my finance career

  • To translate spiritual concepts like soul contracts into everyday language

  • To teach Human Design and BG5 in accessible, actionable ways


But timing is everything. If I try to explain something before the other person is ready, I’m dismissed—or misunderstood, or ridiculed. When the right person recognises my insight at the right time? Magic happens.


How BG5 Changed My Career Path

Discovering BG5 gave me something invaluable: permission to work in a way that suits my design. I no longer push myself to perform like everyone else. I no longer override my instinct for the sake of logic. I understand how people see me and how to use that to build healthy, effective business relationships.


Most importantly, BG5 gave me a blueprint for sustainable success—one that honours my energy, my rhythm, and my natural abilities.
